Hello, now all articles except the montly info posting are expired here. What happened to the List-ID idea? Is someone already writing a draft? - -- Claus "3247" Andre Faerber fax: +49-8061-3361 PGP: ID=1024/527CADCD FP=12 20 49 F3 E1 04 9E 9E 25 56 69 A5 C6 A0 C9 DC ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 6 Apr 1998 06:12:40 -0600 From: Rob Chandhok <(suppressed)@within.com> Subject: Re: What happened to List-ID? I've sent mail to Grant asking what his plans are since he said he was writing the draft, but haven't received a reply. I'm happy to draft a first version or work with someone else to do so. I think List-ID is needed ASAP and that it is a very straightfoward RFC. In my opinion, the other List-XXX headers are crippled without List-ID. They do pretty much everything I wanted from them as they are. The List-ID provides a separate functionality (providing a unique grouping ID for messages that are part of a list) that could also make it easier for MUAs to keep a database of the List- header fields (by more tightly associating the List- fields with a particular list). - -- "All technology should be assumed guilty until proven innocent"-David Brower http://www.nisto.com/ O- <*> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 6 Apr 1998 11:50:38 -0600 From: Rob Chandhok <(suppressed)@within.com> Subject: Re: What happened to List-ID? If you have any existing language or draft, I'd appreciate starting from that. Rob wrote: >>I think List-ID is needed ASAP and that it is a very straightfoward RFC. I didn't mean to imply that List-XXX are useless, but that they can be much more useful when combined with a List-ID. This mostly has to do with building more functionality into the MUA. Without List-ID, it is very difficult to say what the is in the sentence "this is how to subscribe to ". Fair enough. But given the current discussion, would a list moving from greycouncil.com to rangers.com (as an example) need to make sure they used the UUID from the old list? Is there any way to do a mapping and find out where a list with a UUID that you have from 2 years ago is now hosted, if at all? regards, Jack - ------------------------------------------------- Jack De Winter - Wildbear Consulting, Inc.
